Passivation treatment is done for stainless steel alloys. The strong presence of chrome in these alloys allows for the formation of an oxide layer (Cr2O3) that protects against corrosion. The passivation treatment allows to make the oxide layer uniform on the surface of the metal and to make it thicker.
